Job Description
As a Credit Controller, you will:
- Administer the credit control function, ensuring all outstanding debts are collected on time.
- Set targets and KPIs, and implement relevant company policies and procedures.
- Contribute to maintaining healthy cash flow and optimizing financial performance.
Objectives of the Role
- Establish credit limits and evaluate the creditworthiness of customers.
- Implement credit control policies and procedures effectively to minimize credit risk.
- Manage credit and receivable accounts to enhance the company’s financial stability and profitability.
- Collect overdue accounts and apply strategies to encourage timely payments.
- Monitor credit exposure and minimize bad debt risks.
- Maintain positive relationships with customers while mitigating credit risks.
- Conduct regular credit reviews and reassess credit limits based on payment history and changes in creditworthiness.
- Coordinate with departments such as customer service, sales, and finance to handle credit-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage credit control processes, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
- Assess the creditworthiness of new and existing customers through credit checks and payment history.
- Set appropriate credit limits based on risk assessment and maintain accurate records.
- Monitor customer accounts to ensure timely payments and address payment delays or discrepancies.
- Engage with customers to establish payment plans, negotiate terms, and resolve billing disputes.
- Implement strategies to minimize late or non-payment, including initiating collection actions and negotiating payment plans.
- Generate reports on accounts receivable, collections, and credit risk for management.
- Maintain strong relationships with customers, providing excellent customer service.
- Manage customer enquiries and account reconciliations.
- Monitor customer portals and supply necessary data and communication in response to queries.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of credit control principles, practices, and regulations in the UK manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in using financial software and credit management tools (ERP systems, SAP/Epicor).
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to evaluate financial information.
- Advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Ability to implement accounting principles and practices effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
- Outstanding communication skills for building relationships and resolving disputes.
- Ability to work confidently, independently, and within a team environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience in handling high-volume transactions.
- Good working knowledge of monthly accounting cycles.
- Experience with ERP systems, SAP/Epicor is an advantage.
- Demonstrated record of improving credit control processes and reducing bad debt.
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Exceptional communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- A good team player.
